How did the local people at Farewell Spit help the stranded whales?

- The local people checked the whales to see if the blow hole was clear and stayed away from their tails.
- Some people dug holes around the whales and filled them with water.

I have learned that we should stay away from the whale's tail when helping them. I find that interesting... Do you know why that is?
