Winter Learning Journey Day 4

Swimming with the sharks

How did the local people at Farewell Spit help the stranded whales?

  • They poured water on the whales from buckets and bottles.
  • They put wet towels on them to stop them over heating.
  • The local people checked the whales to see if the blow hole was clear and stayed away from their tails.
  • Some people dug holes around the whales and filled them with water.

Hey Toby,

I have learned that we should stay away from the whale's tail when helping them. I find that interesting... Do you know why that is?

You asked why should stay away from the whale's tail when helping them? I think it is because you might get hurt by the tail.

Hi Toby,

Oh yes, I suppose they get upset and throw their tails around. That would hurt!
