Activity 1
VE Day
To celebrate the end of the war I would
- have a bonfire party and a barbeque (VE day was in the middle of New Zealand Winter after all!) The party might go on late into the night! If the weather was really good we might go for a swim in the sea.
I would invite all my friends and family and the people in my street.
Activity 2 - Making a fashion Statement
I think the children's clothes look ridiculous because you can't go out and play in those clothes very easily. The clothes for the children look very smart but uncomfortable to wear. I would feel silly wearing those clothes because I like wearing easy clothes like a t-shirt and shorts.
In the future I hope there will be no school uniform because I hope there will be NO SCHOOL! My Mum says perhaps we will be able to learn like we are at school from wherever we are in the country!

Hey there Toby, thanks for sharing how you would like to celebrate the victory and completion of the second world war in Europe. Bonfire and Barbecue sounds fantastic. Maybe you could even roast marshmallows on the fire. Swimming would be fun too, but only if the weather was nice. How do you think you would celebrate if the weather was cold, wet and miserable?
I loved reading your honest opinion about the fashion from the 1940's. I reckon you're right, the children's clothes do look ridiculous, and not at all practical. Imagine how annoyed their parents would be if they got those clothes dirty. The clothes they're wearing look far too heavy and hot. Sometimes you just want to wear something simple like a t shirt and a pair of shorts, especially in this heat.
Interesting prediction about the future! What do you think your mum means by that?
Thanks, Billy
